1. Overview
Holon Grade speeds up grading and keeps your gradebook accurate — AI-assisted scoring, rubric support, and a one-click gradebook audit, all synced with Canvas.
Holon Grade combines three things in one tool: a gradebook audit that flags problems before they affect students, a SpeedGrader-style grading workspace with optional AI suggestions, and direct grade sync back to your Canvas gradebook.
2. Getting Access
Holon Grade is part of the Holon tool suite and is launched from Holon Hub. There is nothing to install per-tool and no token to enter.

Purchase a plan that includes Holon Grade from your Holon portal.

Install Holon Hub in your Canvas course (once). Hub is your single entry point to every Holon tool you own.

Open Holon Hub from your Canvas navigation, find Holon Grade, and launch it. It loads ready to use.
No token to manage: You will never be asked to paste a Canvas API token. Hub securely provides the Canvas access Holon Grade needs when you launch it from Hub.
3. Dashboard
The Dashboard is your landing view, summarizing your grading activity and giving quick access to the audit.
From the Dashboard you can run an audit report and jump into grading. The sidebar provides access to Grade Audit and SpeedGrader.
4. Grade Audit
The Grade Audit scans your course for common gradebook problems and lets you fix many of them in one click.
Click Run Audit Report to scan the course. Holon Grade checks for:
- Misleading grade totals — missing assignments with no zero entered, which inflate student grades
- Hidden grades — graded work students cannot see yet
- Assignment group weights — groups that don't add up to 100%
- Missing due dates — assignments with no due date set
- Unpublished assignments — hidden assignments affecting grade calculations
- Grading progress — how many submissions still need grading
Tip: Run an audit before posting final grades to catch issues that would otherwise surprise students.
5. SpeedGrader & AI Grading
SpeedGrader gives you a fast workspace to review submissions and apply grades, with optional AI suggestions.
Open SpeedGrader from the sidebar to step through submissions for an assignment. You can read each submission, enter a score and feedback, and optionally request an AI-suggested grade and feedback draft that you can edit before posting. AI suggestions are a starting point — you always have the final say.
6. Rubric Scoring
If an assignment has a Canvas rubric, Holon Grade lets you score against it directly.
When a rubric is attached, each criterion appears in the grading view. Assign points per criterion and the total is calculated for you, then synced to Canvas along with the rubric assessment.
7. Syncing Grades to Canvas
Grades and feedback you enter in Holon Grade are written back to your Canvas gradebook.
When you post a grade, Holon Grade updates the corresponding Canvas submission — score, written feedback, and rubric assessment. There is no export step; the gradebook is updated directly.
Note: You need instructor access to the course for grade sync to work. This is provided automatically through your Hub launch.
8. Accessibility & Theme
Holon Grade includes built-in accessibility and theming controls in the topbar.
Use the A / A+ / A++ buttons to increase text size within the tool. Use the 🎨 Theme button to customize colors (accent, background, sidebar, navigation) to match your institution, with a Reset to Default option.
9. FAQ & Troubleshooting
The audit or grading view can't load my course data.
Make sure you launched Holon Grade from Holon Hub so its Canvas connection is active. If it was opened outside of Hub, close it and relaunch from Holon Hub.
Do I need to enter a Canvas API token?
No. Hub provides the Canvas connection automatically. You will never be asked to paste a token.
Do I have to use the AI suggestions?
No. AI grade suggestions are optional. You can grade entirely manually; the AI is there to speed up a first pass if you want it.
My grades didn't appear in Canvas.
Confirm your Canvas account has instructor access to the course. If it does and the issue persists, relaunch Holon Grade from Holon Hub to refresh the connection.
